Summary
Grubea australis n. sp. (family Mazocraeidae, subfamily Grubeinae) from the gills of the mackerel Scomber australasicus in New South Wales, Australia, is described. It differs from the only other species of the genus recognized in its relatively much smaller opisthaptor, which is oblique to the longitudinal axis of the body proper and has a reduced muscular adhesion fold. Grubea cochlear from Scomber scombrus in the Mediterranean and from S. japonicus on the coast of São Paulo State, Brazil, is re-described; its clamps may be on the right or left side of the opisthaptor.
