Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the international context in which the sustainable university has developed, and it provides a brief review of the guidelines and literature for green and sustainable universities with attention to policy, curriculum, teaching, and learning matters. Drawing on examples from Asia and across the globe, the chapter seeks to shed light on what drives change on a global scale, what assures accountability, and how and why some institutions are making a significant contribution to transforming society.
