Abstract

The current technological advancement demands the development of novel materials with improved resistance against wear and tear. In metal matrix composites, the ceramic reinforcements play an important role to attain enhancement in various properties viz. physical, mechanical and tribological properties. Metallic coating on ceramic reinforcements could improve better bonding, wettability between matrix and reinforcement. So, the study of its progression deserves a thorough and exhaustive investigation. The present article focused mainly on the preparation of electroless coating on alumina particles. Micro-structural studies were also carried to observe the presence of the coating on the particulates. It is further expected that the present study would be used to develop the novel materials by incorporating the prepared particulates into the aluminum alloys, and subsequently, mechanical, tribological and machining studies can be conducted to attain the advantage of developed novel materials.
