Abstract
A general measure of inequality which, in the limit, converges to the Theil measure is developed, based on the Generalized Entropy of Degree \(\alpha \) (Aczel and Daroczy 1975). The properties of the measure are discussed with an empirical illustration using Indian Consumer Expenditure Survey data.
