Abstract
The carbon footprint is mainly produced by industrial activities such that how to manage the information to lower the carbon emission from supply chains is an essential issue. Blockchain can be viewed as a distributed and irreversible database that can assist stakeholders to trace and manage the carbon emission by realizing the carbon footprint. This paper thus devises a framework integrating carbon footprint and blockchain as an innovative carbon emission management tool. Using Taiwan as a base for discussion, we adopt the carbon footprint online database as an essential part of this framework. Two possible application scenarios using this framework discussed herein are the carbon footprint disclosure and the supply chain management.
