What the Smith Grandparents Have to Say

  • Chapter
Rural Transformation and Newfoundland and Labrador Diaspora

Part of the book series: Transgressions ((TRANS))

Abstract

People today are living longer and healthier lives and, as a result, have a better quality of life as well as more choices and benefits. One of those benefits is getting to watch their grandchildren grow up, something that many from past generations didn’t get to experience due to high mortality rates and lower life expectancy. The senior years are often viewed as a time when many older adults look forward to retirement, a reward for the many years of hard work in the labour force and raising their families.
