Abstract
Scientific opinion differs on the zoogeographical dispersal of marsupial life, but of far greater significance is the fact that Australia, in prolonged prehistoric isolation except for New Guinea, fostered the greatest phylogenetic deployment of a single mammalian Order that the World can ever know. Because of the complexity of premise and overwhelming literature thereon, this contribution will not be concerned with arbitrary conclusions on prehistoric routes of migration, or a detailed survey of authoritative opinion on the phylogeny of the Marsupialia.
