Abstract
Rabies has been with mankind since time immemorial. Its history is lost in antiquity (Steele, 1975). Rabies is an important disease of foxes, but also of other animal species. Due to the character of the zoonosis in densely populated areas of North America and Europe, and thanks to WHO’s effort to coordinate research, more is known about rabies in foxes than in any other animal species (except laboratory rodents). But rabies in other species causes greater economic loss and more tragedy.
