Tissue Typing in Human Kidney Transplantation

  • Chapter
Immunological Aspects of Transplantation Surgery

Abstract

Transplantation antigens have been found on the cell surface of virtually all tissues of an animal. Differences in these antigens between members of the same species may be a reflection of small chemical changes in these antigens. Surgical transfer of an organ from one individual to another will in most instances be followed by an immunological reaction against these small differences.
