The impact of acute rejection on the long-term outcome after renal transplantation

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Transplantation and Clinical Immunology ((TRAC,volume 28))

Abstract

Several retrospective studies have stressed the negative impact of acute rejection on the short-term results after cadaveric kidney transplantation [1, 2]. In a recently published analysis, we found that the negative impact of a single rejection on the one-year graft survival rate was limited but that this negative effect significantly increased when more than one rejection occurred [3]. Only a few studies, however, have analyzed the impact of acute rejection on the long-term outcome.
