A generic conspectus of the forage legumes of the Mediterranean basin

  • Chapter
Genetic Resources of Mediterranean Pasture and Forage Legumes

Abstract

An ecogeographic / taxonomic conspectus and identification aids are presented for 29 temperate forage legume genera commonly found in the Mediterranean basin. The conspectus for each genus contains a summary of the current accepted classification, taxonomic history and affinities, suggestions of useful keys, ecological and distributional information and a summary of uses. The conspectus is complemented by novel descriptions, a bracketed key, a tabular key and a generic character set that can be used with an interactive identification system.
