Industrial Aspects of Olefin Metathesis/Polymerization Catalysts

  • Chapter
Olefin Metathesis and Polymerization Catalysts

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 326))

Abstract

The fascinating reaction which has become the main reason for our present gathering at this pleasant place sometimes appears to the “normal” organic chemist first confronted with it as being the very recent fruit of some research in the neighbourhood of science fiction. One of the “Great Old Men”, Sir Robert Robinson, even called it the most remarkable discovery since Ziegler-Natta polymerization [1]. Actually, in its earliest roots, it can be traced back to the same origins; thus, metathesis is already older than quite a part of this audience.
