The Chemistry of β-Lactams

Abstract

Until relatively recently, progress in our understanding of the machinery responsible for the biosynthesis of β-lactams has been slow. However, in the last decade or so, many interesting new developments have taken place within the field of β-lactam biosynthesis. In this chapter, it is hoped to convey some of the excitement and enjoyment that the authors have felt during the course of their studies.
