Abstract
There are several important related features of climate and topography which play a major role in the distributions of invertebrate populations in southern Africa. Southern Africa has one of the richest arachnid faunas in the world and this is probably due to the wide range of habitat types ranging from extreme desert to forest within a relatively small land area.
