Hyperlipidemia and Atherosclerosis in Chronic Dialysis Patients

  • Chapter
Replacement of Renal Function by Dialysis

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia, manifested as turbidity of plasma after an overnight fast, has been recognized in patients with renal disease for over a century. Only since the advent of dialysis treatment, however, has it been possible to determine why large light-scattering triglyceride-rich fat particles accumulate and cause plasma lactescence in many renal failure patients.
