Abstract
As noted elsewhere in this volume, treatment of brain metastases by either radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with or without steroids, has been disappointing: although radiation therapy has been shown to improve the quality of life (Hendrickson 1975; Order et al. 1968), the average duration of survival is only 3–6 months. Among patients with lung cancer and brain metastases, the response is very poor particularly with non-oat cell carcinoma. This chapter reports our experience with concomitant doxorubicin hydrochloride (Adriamycin), CCNU and radiation therapy in the treatment of brain metastases from lung cancer exclusively.
