The genus Sideritis section Empedoclia has long been known as part of the Greek flora. In Hayek’s (11) flora ten taxa were accepted for Greece, viz. Hayek, S. scardica Gris., S. scardica Gris. var. pelia Hal., S. perfoliata L., S. raeseri Boiss. & Heldr., S. raeseri Boiss. & Heldr. var. lanceolata Hal., S. raeseri Boiss. & Heldr. var. attica (Heldr.) Hal., S. euboea Heldr., and S. syriaca L. Heywood (12) reduced the number of taxa occurring in Greece to four, viz.
