Abstract
The interest in ultrasound scanning from positions located inside the human body has remained after the first proposals some 10 years ago (1, 2). The number of workers in this particular field has been, however, rather low. This may be explained by the high success rate of ultrasound in standard non-invasive applications. Still there exists a clinical demand for alternative scanning procedures for some specific applications. The prostate, for instance, is hard to scan successfully from locations outside the patient and therefore intra-rectal scanning has become an accepted procedure.
