Summary
This paper reports the results in a recent series of about 150 eyes in patients with suspected choroidal melanomas, metastatic tumours, hemangiomas or pseudo-tumours where the diagnosis, established with B-scan, was checked by histology after enucleation or by follow-up over at least two years in cases of choroidal hemangioma or pseudo-tumour.
Three kinds of modifications were observed with contact B-scan, using different instruments:

choroidal excavation,
-
choroidal infiltration,
-
choroidal detachment.
The appearance of each modification is described and its diagnostic value is discussed.
The echographic appearance of the normal choroid and of its pathological changes has become better known over the past few years due to improvements in B mode echographic techniques (Coleman et al., 1972, Poujol 1978 and 1980). A more precise diagnosis of choroidal tumours and a better differential diagnosis of pseudo-tumours is now possible.
