Performance Measurements and Quantitative Echography

Ophthalmic Ultrasonography

Part of the book series: Documenta Ophthalmologica Proceedings Series ((DOPS,volume 38))

Summary

It was demonstrated how serious malfunctions of diagnostic ultrasonic equipment can be detected with the help of simple acoustic and electronic performance measurements. Furthermore, the benefit of these measurements for computer-assisted A-scan signal analysis was shown. A low-cost minicomputer system could be used to gain additional tissue differentiation data. These were — to a certain degree of approximation — free from the individual characteristics of the ultrasound system used, thus making diagnostic findings easier to be compared and valid in a more general sense.
