Deterioration of Threshold in Glaucoma Patients During Perimetry

Part of the book series: Documenta Ophthalmologica Proceedings Series ((DOPS,volume 35))

Abstract

Chronic open angle glaucoma patients and glaucoma suspects were subjected to continuous contrast threshold measurement using automatic and manual perimetric techniques. The results show, that an increment of contrast threshold over time is a frequent finding in glaucoma patients and that this increment can be large especially close to existing field defects. It is reproducible and independent of background illumination and can be demonstrated in the same test points both with automatic and manual testing.

The results, which may have some important implications for visual field testing in glaucoma, are discussed.
