Acid Deposition the Present Situation in Europe

  • Conference paper
Acid Deposition

Abstract

In the light of recent strong public interest in the “acid rain” issue, an attempt will be made to put together our present knowledge on acidic deposition to the earth surface. Since both wet and dry deposition contribute to the atmospheric input which may be responsible for a harmful impact on the environment, both processes will be considered here. Main emphasis will be given to the formation and removal of acidic substances under special consideration of the important contributions within projects COST 61a (1972–1976) and COST 61a bis (1979–1983) of the Commission of the European Communities.
