Acid Precipitation over the Netherlands

  • Conference paper
Acid Deposition

Summary

After seme remarks about the history, information will be given about networks measuring the chemical composition of precipitation. The development of the networks is discussed. Siting of the stations is one of the problems.

Up till now generally open (bulk) collectors have been used. This results in contamination of the sample by birds’ droppings. The difference between open and wet-only collectors is demonstrated by means of some results of the analysis of rainwater obtained at the same site with different types of collectors.

Into the acidification aspect of the precipitation will be looked more closely.

The trend of the pH of rainwater during the period from 1956 to 1981 in The Netherlands will be discussed.
