On the Preparation of Fine Silicon Nitride Powders

  • Chapter
Progress in Nitrogen Ceramics

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 65))

Abstract

Silicon nitride can be prepared by various reactions. Silicon nitride powders produced by three different methods are compared, and production-specific powder characteristics are explained. The production method chosen by Messrs. Hermann C. Starck is commented on in terms of its powder quality-determining steps, with particular regard to the formation of sinter-active, fine particle size, high-purity α-silicon nitride.
