Summary
The reaction mechanisms for oxidation of CH3CC12 and CCI3CH2 radicals, formed via the atmospheric degradation of methylchloroform, have been elucidated. The primary oxidation products from these radicals are CH3CC1O and CC13CHO respectively. Rate constants for the reactions of hydroxyl radicals with CH3CC13, CH3CC1O and CC13CHO have been determined. The effect of chlorine substitution on the reactivity of organic Compounds towards hydroxyl radicals is discussed.
