Abstract
This paper presents method for multiaxial fatigue damage assessment which is based on the concept of a critical plane for crack nucleation and growth. In this method, both tensile and shear growth are considered to be important. Cyclic hardening cause by out-of-phase loading is included in the constitutive equations for the stress strain simulation. Rainflow counting is used to determine damaging events on each plane in the material. Failure is assumed to occur when the damage on any plane reaches a critical value.
