Abstract

Over the past two decades the educational reform movement has taken centre stage at local, state, and national levels. The intense reform activity and scrutiny of all dimensions of education are products of broader social, economic, and political problems currently being played out in schools. In general, reform initiatives have focused on such areas as the integrity and quality of school curricula, the preparation and performance of classroom teachers, school governance and control structures, finance and equity issues, and school leadership.
