Triassic biostratigraphy of the Barents Sea area

  • Conference paper
Correlation in Hydrocarbon Exploration

Abstract

A succession of 16 palynological assemblages, based on spores and pollen, dinoflagellate cysts and palynomorphs of uncertain origin is recognized in Triassic (Griesbachian-Rhaetian) sequences of the Barents Sea area. This succession is based largely upon the study of material from outcrops in Spitsbergen and Bjørnøya and from boreholes in the Barents Sea. The two youngest assemblages (Late Norian and Rhaetian) are recognized partly on the basis of published records.
