Abstract
Disposable Wave bioreactors are presently used world-wide in many cell culture laboratories. In its simple operating mode, cells are cultivated in Wave reactors with limited at-line control of pH or DO. For process development purposes, and especially for high cell density cultivations, reliable in-line or on-line pH and DO monitoring and control systems are needed. In the present study, pH and DO in a Wave bioreactor was monitored and controlled using a standard control system for stirred tank bioreactors. Furthermore, measurements were performed with standard pH and DO sensors in an external loop with cell free supernatant.
