Abstract

In this paper, identification of common Indian leafy vegetables based on statistical measures on combined color and texture features is presented. Different types of color and texture features are used to train the neural network. A BPNN-based classifier is used for identification of leafy vegetables. The identification rate is in the range 92–100 % for ten types of vegetables. Proposed method shows an improvement over the previous work. This work finds significance in various applications such as automatic vending, packing, grading of vegetables, food preparation.
