Power-Law Behaviors of I-V Characteristics and Magnetoresistance in Thin Indium Films

  • Conference paper
Advances in Superconductivity VI

Abstract

The current-voltage characteristics and the magnetoresistance are measured in an amorphous thin film of indium and a granular one composed of (quasi-) two-dimensionally coupled indium particles. They show similar power-law behaviors in the forms of VI a(T) and R ∿ B b(T) with temperature dependent exponents. The results are explained in terms of vortex unbinding by a current and a magnetic field, implying that the superconducting transition is of the Kosterlitz-Thouless (K-T) type.

  12. In the simulation [8], b(T,I)’s have been calculated only for selected currents higher than 0.3IC. In the experiment, however, much lower currents (I < 0.01Ic) have been used to avoid the joule-heating at low temperatures. With respect to b(T), direct comparison between the theory and the experiment is accordingly impossible at present. R.Sugano kindly informed us that b(T) for I~0.01IC, b(T, I ~ 0. 011 c), should be larger than b(T,1=0.3Ic) that is shown in Fig.4 of Ref.8.
