Zusammenfassung

Aspekte der Internationalisierung von Handelsunternehmen werden in den meisten Fällen aus der Perspektive der Erschließung internationaler Absatzmärkte („Cross Border Retailing“) diskutiert. Vor allem seit den 1980er Jahren ist in der Handelspraxis eine deutliche Zunahme der Bedeutung des Cross Border Retailing zu beobachten. In der wissenschaftlichen Literatur werden Fragen der Internationalisierung von Handelsunternehmen verstärkt seit den 1990er Jahren thematisiert, mit Schwerpunkten in der Analyse von Marktselektionsstrategien (vgl. z. B. Vida/Fairhurst 1998, Gielens/Dekimpe 2001, Swoboda/Schwarz/Hälsig 2007), Markteintrittsstrategien (vgl. z. B. Doherty/Quinn 1999, Goldman 2001, Palmer 2006), der geographischen Ausbreitung (vgl. z. B. Sternquist 1997, Vida/Fairhurst 1998, Alexander/Myers 2000), aber auch der Analyse von Desinvestitions- und Rückzugsstrategien (vgl. z. B. Alexander/Quinn 2002, Burt et al. 2002).
