Some Aspects of the Effects of Endotoxin, Endotoxoid, and Biogenic Amines

  • Chapter
Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections and Mode of Endotoxin Actions

Abstract

Endotoxins certainly play a more important role in systemic diseases caused by gram-negative bacteria than for instance in gram-negative infections of the gastrointestinal tract, such as shigellosis. Considering the pathophysiology of infections with gram-negative bacteria endotoxins represent only one of the pathogenic principles of gram-negative bacteria.
