Zusammenfassung

Der voranstehende Text zeigt, daß vor bereits über achtzig Jahren die Chronobiologie des Schlafes ein Objekt wissenschaftlicher Betrachtung war, und daß damit auch die Frage nach dem Zustand subjektiver Befindlichkeit („frisch wie eine junge Rüde“) und dem Zeitpunkt von Schlafen und Wachen vor oder nach Mitternacht verbunden war. Systemtheoretische Erwägungen sind für die Beschreibung und für Aufklärungsversuche der Wirkungen von Schlafentzug bei affektiven Erkrankungen deswegen besonders angemessen, weil die Theorie nicht-linear dynamischer Systeme eine Betrachtungsweise impliziert, innerhalb derer qualitative Aussagen über Systemzustände wesentliches aussagen über zeitliche Ordnungen, denn Dynamik bedeutet Ordnung in der Zeit. Hieraus ergibt sich, daß Fragen nach der systemtheoretischen Beschreibung von therapeutischen Schlafentzügen wesentlich Fragen nach den relevanten neuropsychologischen Mechanismen affektregulierender Systeme darstellen, und daß eine formale systemtheoretische Beschreibung deren Dynamik gefunden werden muß.
