Zusammenfassung

Nach einer Tracheostomie sollte die Dekanülierung idealerweise den Behandlungsprozess abschließen. Eine möglichst rasche Dekanülierung ist nicht nur für die betroffenen Patienten von Interesse, sondern auch für deren Angehörige und Familien sowie für die Betreuungs- und Pflegkräfte. Als Voraussetzung für die mögliche Dekanülierung gelten allgemein adäquater Atemantrieb, adäquate Atemsituation, effizienter Hustenstoß und ausreichender Schutz der oberen Atemwege vor Aspiration. Neben Entscheidungskriterien zur Dekanülierung werden generelle Vorgehensweisen der Dekanülierung vorgestellt.
