In den letzten Jahren führten populärwissenschaftlich formulierte Aussagen in den Medien, spekulative Werbeversprechungen der Nahrungsmittel- und Getränkebranche, glaubhaft dargestellte pseudomedizinische Informationen von bekannten und erfolgreichen Persönlichkeiten sowie mündliche „Überlieferungen“ von Trainingspartnern oder Wettbewerbskonkurrenten zu einer zunehmenden Verunsicherung auf dem Gebiet der Sporternährung und speziell auf dem Gebiet der Supplementationen.
