Zusammenfassung
Die Andrologie ist ein interdisziplinär angelegtes Fach, das primär die reproduktive Gesundheit des Mannes zum Gegenstand hat. Neben der Diagnostik und Therapie bei unerfülltem Kinderwunsch (Infertilität) gehören jedoch auch endokrine Funktionsstörungen der Hoden (Hypogonadismus) einschließlich altersbezogener Fragestellungen (Pubertät, Seneszenz), Sexualstörungen (erektile Dysfunktion) und Krankheitsbilder der männlichen Brustdrüse (Gynäkomastie) zu den Behandlungsschwerpunkten. Grundkenntnisse über andrologische Erkrankungen und deren Konsequenzen müssen in jedem Bereich der Medizin gegeben sein. Besonders deutlich wird dies bei Fragen zu möglichen Auswirkungen von Medikamenten und anderen exogenen Noxen auf die männliche Fertilität und Optionen der Kryokonservierung von Keimzellen (Fertilitätsprotektion). Einschränkungen der Hoden- und Sexualfunktionen können Vorbote von Allgemeinerkrankungen sein, ebenso durch Komorbiditäten ausgelöst oder aggraviert werden.
