The Study of Creativity in Future Artists: The Criterion Problem

  • Chapter
Experience Structure & Adaptability

Abstract

It is hazardous to suggest, as our title does, that we are dealing in this study with future artists. Our subjects are only art students; we do not know how many of them, if any, will be recognized by posterity as having attained their goal. But the fact is that these individuals have committed themselves seriously to a career in the arts by pursuing full-time study in a museum-connected art school at great expense in time, energy, and money. Several have already exhibited their work professionally, some have won prizes in important competitions, and a number have standing contracts with recognized art galleries.
