Chordee (Penile Curvature)

  • Chapter
Hypospadias Surgery

Abstract

Three distinct pathologic types of chordee with hypospadias were described by Horton and Devine (1973). In the first type the spongiosum is absent in the distal penis, an abnormal fibrous layer prevents the penis from being straight and the urethra is often paper thin. In the second type, the urethra is completely developed but Buck’s fascia and the dartos fascia are abnormal. The third type was described as a skin chordee and is due to abnormality of the superficial dartos fascia. A fourth type was described by Kramer et al. (1982) and may be the result of disproportional growth of the dorsal portion of the corporal bodies causing downward deflection.
