Abstract

The thymidine analogue 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) can specifically and quantitatively replace thymidine in DNA molecules using either an in vivo (Dunn and Smith, 1954; Zamenhof and Griboff, 1954; Hackett and Hanawalt, 1966) or in vitro (Bessman et al., 1958) enzymatic reactions.
