Comparison of Mathematics and Physics Education II

Abstract

Dealing with numbers, quantities and units in measurement contexts is a central and also interconnecting content of mathematics and physics classes. Though, many students struggle with measurement tasks. Hence, this chapter analyzes central core insights in measurement-related concepts and procedures focusing on understanding measurement instruments, the importance of reference points, the understanding of unit sizes, converting physical quantities and understanding of decimal numbers. Common problems and mistakes of students are analyzed in detail and some hints how to overcome these problems are given.
