Zusammenfassung
Der Beitrag stellt die Theorie des transformativen Lernens von Jack Mezirow und ihre Weiterentwicklungen vor. Die Theorie versteht Lernen als reflexive, kritische Verarbeitung von problematischen Erfahrungen im Diskurs, die zu einer Änderung in den habits of mind und zur Integration der neuen Erfahrung führt. Der Beitrag rekonstruiert den pragmatistischen Wahrheitsbegriff und den Begriff der Anpassung. Die Suche nach Wahrheit ist ein kollektiver Prozess der kritischen Reflexion von Erfahrung. Lernen ist Anpassung an die Welt, wobei Anpassung nicht als Gegenbegriff von Mündigkeit und Emanzipation gefasst wird, sondern als selbstkritische Transformation von Denkgewohnheiten, die sich nicht mehr bewähren. Die Theorie ist deshalb für die deutsche Lern- und Bildungsforschung interessant, weil sie Dichotomien wie Subjekt – Objekt, Lernen – Bildung, Anpassung – Emanzipation oder wahr – falsch auflöst, an denen sich die deutsche Lerntheorie abarbeitet. Allerdings gibt es nicht wenige kritische Punkte, auf die ebenfalls eingegangen wird.
