Zusammenfassung

Der Buchbeitrag stellt zentrale Theorien der Integration von Migranten in die Einwanderungs-gesellschaften vor. Nach einer Klärung der zentralen Konzepte der Integration und der Assimilation werden sowohl klassische als auch aktuelle Integrationstheorien sowie die Kritik an diesen Theorien vorgestellt und an einem Datenbeispiel erläutert. Während ältere Integrationstheorien davon ausgehen, dass Migranten in erster Linie durch eine Angleichung an die ethnische Mehrheit in die Einwanderungsgesellschaften integriert werden, betonen neuere Theorien Alternativen zur Assimilation, bzw. haben ein offeneres Verständnis von Integration und Assimilation. Welche Theorie Integrationsprozesse am besten beschreibt und erklärt, ist nicht in allen Kontexten und für alle Migranten gleich und muss in jedem einzelnen Fall empirisch geklärt werden.
