Abstract
The pituitary gland of the rat is located in the midline at the base of the brain on the sella turcica, which is rather flat in this animal. Superiorly, it is connected with the hypothalamus by the stalk. The pituitary gland of the rat is divided into three major anatomical parts: the pars distalis, the pars intermedia, and the pars nervosa. The pars tuberalis, composed of cells resembling those of the pars distalis, is present around the stalk up to the hypothalamus.
