Alcoholic Beverages

  • Chapter
Modern Food Analysis

Abstract

The most important beverages in this category are the malt beverages: ale, beer, porter and stout. Some form of beer has been drunk for at least 6,000 years and there are numerous references to its use in the records of ancient Mesopotamia, China, and Egypt. Next to wine, it is no doubt the oldest of prepared food drinks.1
