Control of Feeding and Drinking in Diapausing Insects

  • Chapter
Experimental Analysis of Insect Behaviour

Abstract

The insects provide an excellent example of the diverse morphological, physiological, and behavioral adaptations involved in obtaining food and water. In addition to coping with the problem of obtaining a given food and water supply, insects frequently face periods completely devoid of either of these commodities. These periods of stress have placed selective pressure on insects forcing them to develop specific strategies to counter the natural pressures imposed by the adverse environmental conditions.
