Part of the book series: Studies in Contemporary Economics ((CONTEMPORARY,volume 8))

Abstract

This contribution tries to determine the impact on growth rate and distribution of national income of negative vis-à-vis positive population growth rates. In what respect and to which extent do the results of the established theory of economic growth and income distribution survive if negative instead of positive growth rates of population and labour force are assumed? What are the conditions for the existence and stability of steady-state solutions with negative growth rates, and what about the chances that these conditions will be satisfied in a competitive system?
