Assessment of Quality of Life and Benefits from Adjuvant Therapies in Breast Cancer

Adjuvant Therapy of Breast Cancer IV

Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 127))

Abstract

The traditional outcome parameters employed in clinical research in oncology include tumor response, local recurrence rate, development of metastatic disease, disease-free and overall survival, and, in the case of palliative therapies, the control of major physical symptoms. Increasingly, however, there is interest in incorporating a broader set of evaluation criteria that reflect the impact of the disease and of its treatment on the functional, psychological, and social health of the individual patient.
