Abstract
They tell me this ‘spot’ in the programme was reserved for the member of the Conference Advisory Board who proved to be the least successful in drumming up Conference attendees. From the size of the UK contingent at the Conference, it might appear that we are a ‘third world’ nation as regards materials characterisation. I don’t think this is in fact the case. I obviously just didn’t do my job well enough and so I now have to pay the penalty!
