Abstract

In the southwest branch of the Iberian Variscan Arc, the South Portuguese Zone (SPZ) is an arcuate thrust belt (Fig. 1 in Part IV, Chap. 2, p. 148). The dominant structures change from a north-south direction on the Atlantic seaboard, to an east-west direction near the Spanish border.
